This rule lets travellers pick a fare only up to a set amount or percentage above the cheapest option for the same trip. It is checked in search results and again whenever a traveller switches to another fare in the basket.
Where to find it
Trip settings → Travel policies → open a policy → Flight tab → Max markup over cheapest.
How to set it up
- Open the policy and go to the Flight tab.
- Switch on Max markup over cheapest.
- Choose an amount in the policy currency or a percentage, and enter the value (up to 99.9%).
- Save.
What travellers see
- In the basket, the traveller can compare fares for the flight and switch to another one.
- If the new fare costs more than the cheapest trip plus the allowed markup, the flight is marked out of policy.
- Depending on the policy, the basket then asks for approval or blocks the booking.
- Switching back to a fare within the limit removes the flag.
Good to know
- The rule compares the whole trip. For a round trip or multi-city trip, the cheapest trip is the sum of the cheapest option on each route.
- The price used includes the service fee you see on screen.
- When you switch fare, the new fare is also checked against airline restrictions, baggage and refundability rules.
FAQ
I picked a better fare in the basket and now it needs approval. Why? Your policy allows fares only a set amount or percentage above the cheapest option, and the new fare is over that limit.
Does the percentage apply to each flight or to the whole trip? To the whole trip. Your selection is compared with the cheapest possible trip for the same search.
Can I avoid approval? Go back to a fare within the limit. If your company allows split payment, you can also pay the difference yourself.
