At the top of the Airline credits page an admin chooses how travellers use credits.
Optional
Travellers see a matching credit under the fare and may use it. The choice is theirs.
Mandatory (use first)
Travellers are asked to use a matching credit before paying for a new ticket on that airline. In search, the credit line under the fare reads "required by company policy".
Why it matters
Credits expire; cash and points do not. Mandatory is for companies accumulating unused tickets: it asks travellers not to buy a new ticket past money that has already been paid.
Directors, Accountants, Travel managers and TMC admins set the policy. Travellers see its effect in search but do not configure it.
